September 25, 2012|

Technology can be compared to a fish. The longer it stays in the basket, the lesser it is desired. Yes, that is the fate of modern technology concepts, no matter how good they are. Modern man loves to see changes, innovation, flexibility and creativity in the latest gadgets and technology stuff. That also is an answer to why tech companies go on and on making advancements to each aspect of their products.

The OS X operating system of Apple and Microsoft’s Windows operating system needs no introduction. How about running Mac OS X inside Windows operating system using VirualBox? Indeed, this is a typical example of the 'height of innovation and flexibility', a modern man is on the lookout for.

Guide to run Mac OS X inside Windows using VirtualBox

You need a PC that runs on Windows operating system. Change your system settings to 64-bit as OS X operating system supports only 64-bit. In case you have your Windows set up to 32-bit, you will only be able to run Mac OS X ‘Snow Leopard’ version on Virtual box and not the ‘Mountain Lion’ version. Your system needs to have four GB RAM along with dual core processor or better configurations. Your hard disk must have at least 10 GB unused space.

To check your system configuration, right click on the ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop and go to Properties. Check for your processor model in Google or Wikipedia in order to determine how many cores your processor has. You will also have to check out if your processor is manufactured by ‘AMD’ or ‘Intel’. This is because PCs with AMD processors may not support Lion. You might have to settle with Mac OS X Snow Leopard if you have a computer running on AMD processor.

Requirements

  • The standard procedure of installing the OS X Mountain Lion on computers (the actual use of a paid copy of Mountain Lion Installer) does not function with VirtualBox. Hence find a pirated Mountain Lion bootable DVD for the purpose (also known as ‘distros’). As an alternative, you can download these copies from bittorrent clients. The operating system is sized 4.5 GB.
  • Hackboot 1 or Hackboot 2: The Olarilla version of OS X cannot startup in VirtualBox by itself. In order to startup Mountain Lion, you will need the Olarila's Hackboot CD. This CD is available in three different versions. You’ll need two of them to follow the setup given below. ‘Hackboot 1’ may be used for running the Mountain Lion installer and ‘Hackboot 2’ can be sued for starting up Mountain Lion itself.
  • Multibeast 4: This tool can be used to make set the virtual machine of Mountain Lion after completing the initial installation process. Multibeast 4 is the best startup tool for Mac OS X Lion while Multibeast 5 is also expected to fade well.
Here is how you can go about it.

1. Download VirtualBox, install and run it. Download the Virtual Extension Pack and run it to view USB components from Mac OS X virtual machine.

2. VirtualBox actually creates a virtual machine to run Mac OS X within the Windows platform. It is a program stimulating a normal computer. Open VirtualBox and click ‘New’ to open a virtual machine. Name your newly created virtual machine and choose the 64-bit version of the Mac OS X Server.

3. Feed your new virtual machine with an operating system. Choose the Mac OS X virtual machine by single clicking from the Virtual box page and open the settings for virtual machine. Select the ‘System’ option and uncheck the option that reads ‘Enable EFI’. This is the most crucial setting you need to do. After this, choose the ‘storage’ option where you see a CD icon named ‘Empty’. Tap on it and click the “Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file’ option. Select the .iso format for Hackboot 1. Now download ‘Hackboot 1’.

4. Start your virtual machine where you will see a CD icon in the Hackboot startup screen. Right click on the CD icon and choose ‘Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file’ A window will pop up from which you can choose the OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion installation DVD. Go back to the Hackboot window and hit the F5 key. The Hackboot screen will now show the message ‘OS X Install DVD’. Hit the Enter key to enter into Mac OS X installation page. Select the destination for your Mac installation. The new OS can be installed only in a clean disk. So erase your hard disk drive contents using the Disk Utility. Select the virtual box hard disk on the setup page and continue.

5. The installation will take approximately 20 minutes after which you can download the Hackboot 2. Reload the page to get the Hackboot window again. The icon for your virtual machine appears in the middle of the screen. Choose the icon and hit the Enter key. You will be in the OS X installation screen. Fill the contents in the screen and you will enter into the Mac OS desktop.

6. Internet is compatible on the virtual operating system. But sound and hard drive booting needs external support. To solve this issue, download Multibeast 4. Prior to that, go to the ‘general’ option and in ‘Alow Application’ option s ‘Anywhere’. Now run Multibeast.

That completes the installation process of virtual hard drive and its operating system. Now restart the virtual machine and Mac OS X will be able to run normally with clear audio play.

Congratulations. Our mission is accomplished.
